The
Basics

The Washington Metropolitan Area, commonly referred to as the "DMV" area, is comprised of the District of Columbia and portions of Maryland and Virginia.

What
Drew Me

As a kid, I simply wanted to visit the White House. As an adult, there really isn't much of a draw to this area for me anymore, but I will end up spending a lot of time here in a few years as Quantico will be our next home for a short time.

Do I Recommend Visiting?

Yeah, why not?

I think every American should visit the capitol at least once in their lifetime, just so you have some semblance of where the people making your laws are. Washington D.C. has a good amount of things to do, and even I, having been there a handful of times, still haven't achieved everything there that I want to.

Of course, there is more to the area than just D.C., but I can't think of an appeal for traveling into it apart from the Virginia wine trails (which are absolutely as fantastic as everyone says they are), or if your loved one is stationed at Quantico for whatever reason and you'd like to visit.

All in all, I'd recommend the DMV for a weekend trip.
