PITTSBURGH

Pittsburgh is a city in western Pennsylvania at the junction of 3 rivers. It's the closest "big" city to where we resided in State College, PA, and became my solace when I was in need of an escape.

Attractions
(Points of Interest)

Acrisure Stadium

100 Art Rooney Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15212

Formerly known (and still lovingly referred to) as Heinz Field, Acrisure Stadium is an NFL football stadium that primarily serves as the home of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Monongahela Incline

340 N 5th St, Philadelphia, PA 19106

A funicular located near the Smithfield Street Bridge that has been in nearly continuous use for over 150 years.

PNC Park

115 Federal St, Pittsburgh, PA 15212

An MLB baseball stadium on the North Shore of Pittsburgh that is home to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

PPG Paints Arena

1001 Fifth Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15219

An NHL indoor arena in that serves as the home of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Bars

Jack's Bar

1117 E Carson St, Pittsburgh, PA 15203

Carson City Saloon

1401 E Carson St, Pittsburgh, PA 15203

Southern Tier Brewery Pittsburgh

The Smiling Moose

1306 E Carson St, Pittsburgh, PA 15203

Eateries

Burgatory

100 Blue Spruce Way, Murrysville, PA 15668

Burger joint serving gourmet burgers, hand-spun shakes, specialty sodas, and cocktails. This one that I went to is just outside of the main part of Pittsburgh (we stopped on our way back to State College from a Steelers game), but there are a few Burgatory locations within the city, itself. It's worth checking out for a good burger.

Sal's Pizzeria

1322 E Carson St, Pittsburgh, PA 15203

You want NYC quality, cheap pizza? This is your spot. Upon first bite, it tasted so much like home that I told the chef, only for him to respond that he's actually from The Village and moved out here to Pgh to open a pizzeria. Quality stuff, I'm telling you.

The Speckled Egg PGH

501 Grant St, Pittsburgh, PA 15219

Brunch, coffee, and cocktails; located inside the Union Trust Building. The food here is incredible and is all made in-house down to the bread! I had housemade strawberry jam with my toast that was award worthy.

Tip: If you're going on a weekend, make a reservation. They get super busy. On weekdays, though, you don't really need one.

"We came to Pittsburgh for a Steelers game and chose this Airbnb as hotels were ridiculously priced and this was fairly priced and close to downtown. I won’t say it was a bad experience, the first night was the only night with any real issues. The hosts seem very welcoming, I didn’t have any issues with them, personally. As we showed up on a Sat night and weren’t driving to Heinz on Sunday, we weren’t able to use the church parking lot the first night. Parking is pretty difficult without it, but I’m from NYC so I’m used to struggling to find parking; not the end of the world, not a problem caused by the hosts. When we were about to go to bed on the first night, the comforter that was laid out on the bed smelled intensely like body odor, which means that it was not washed before we arrived. We tried to wash it ourselves, but there wasn’t any detergent or any washing supplies anywhere in the bnb, despite the fact that it comes with a washer and dryer. Thank goodness for the spare sheets left inside of the futon, which were all clean. I thought it was a little ridiculous that I was charged a cleaning fee but was also presented with dirty sheets. The bed is also right next to what I can only assume is the boiler, which was hard to sleep next to as it constantly emits a sound and, at one point in the night, woke us both up with loud noises that lasted for about 5-10 minutes. Again, this isn’t something within the owner’s control, just something to take note of if you plan on staying here. The walls are pretty thin and you can hear other guests go in and out, which wasn’t a problem to us, but could be if you’re a light sleeper. All in all, it’s a good value for the money if you’re just looking for a place to rest your head at night."

"Of all the Airs that I’ve stayed in over the years, this was one of my absolute favorites. This place is a gem. It’s in what I consider an up-and-coming spot in Pittsburgh that’s conveniently located in decent walking distance to the T and to all the good bars and eateries on Carson. The only downfall with this location is that, when walking back from the T late at night, the walk back was a little sketchy. Beyond that, the house looks newly renovated and was exceptionally clean. I’d stay here again when visiting Pittsburgh in a heartbeat."
